Yifei Huang Bahman Hekmatshoar (SID Student Member) Sigurd Wagner James C. Sturm Abstract — An active-matrix organic light-emitting-diode (AMOLED) display which does not require pixel refresh is demonstrated. This was achieved by replacing the thin-film transistor (TFT) that drives the OLED with a non-volatile memory TFT, in a 2-transistor pixel circuit. The threshold voltage of the non-volatile-memory TFT can be changed by applying programming voltage pulses to the gate electrode. This approach eliminates the need for storage capacitors, increases the pixel fill factor, and potentially reduces power consumption. Each pixel can be individually programmed or erased using a standard active-matrix addressing scheme. The programmed image is stored in the display even if power is turned off.

P-102: Amorphous Silicon Thin-Film Transistors-based Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Displays

In this paper, we describe hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) thin-film transistor (TFT)-based active-matrix arrays for active-matrix organic light-emitting displays (AM-OLEDs). The proposed pixel electrode circuits based on three a-Si:H TFTs can supply a continuous output current for AM-OLEDs. Each pixel circuit has compensation circuits that can adjust for the OLED and a-Si:H TFTs electr...

Amorphous In–Ga–Zn–O Thin Film Transistor Current-Scaling Pixel Electrode Circuit for Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Displays

In this paper, we analyze application of amorphous In–Ga–Zn–O thin film transistors (a-InGaZnO TFTs) to current-scaling pixel electrode circuit that could be used for 3-in. quarter video graphics array (QVGA) full color active-matrix organic light-emitting displays (AM-OLEDs). Simulation results, based on a-InGaZnO TFT and OLED experimental data, show that both device sizes and operational volt...

Novel Current-Scaling Current-Mirror a-Si:H TFT Pixel Electrode Circuit with Cascade Capacitor for AM-OLEDs

We proposed the amorphous silicon thin-film transistor (a-Si:H TFT) pixel electrode circuit with current-scaling function that can be used for active-matrix organic light-emitting displays (AM-OLEDs). In contrast to the conventional current-mirror circuit, this circuit with cascaded storage capacitors can provide a high data-to-OLED current ratio without increasing the aSi:H TFT size. Moreover,...

Novel a-Si:H TFT Vth Compensation Pixel Circuit for AMOLED

A pixel design for active matrix organic light emitting diode (AM-OLED) displays employing hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) thin film transistors (TFTs) is proposed. The proposed pixel circuit, which composed of five TFTs and one capacitor, could compensate the shift of threshold voltage of OLED as well as the threshold voltage of a-Si:H. We fabricated the pixel circuits on the glass sub...

Current-Scaling a-Si:H TFT Pixel Electrode Circuit for AM-OLEDs

We fabricated and characterized the amorphous silicon thin-film transistor (a-Si:H TFT) pixel electrode circuit with currentscaling function that can be used for active-matrix organic lightemitting displays (AM-OLEDs). As expected from previously reported simulation results, fabricated circuit showed an acceptable current-scaling performance for a high-resolution AM-OLED based on a-Si:H TFTs.
